Disproportionately stupid

The Iran regime struck Israel with some 180 ballistic missiles fired from Iran. The Iranian regime meant to inflict death and destruction on Israel. As it is, Israel’s most sophisticated missile defense system approached perfection under an assault that was intended to overwhelm it. In the event, the strike did damage but killed only one Gazan Arab who had relocated to the West Bank. Watching the strike in real time on X, I thought it would be a miracle if it failed to the extent it did.

Israel has to retaliate in some significant fashion. I hope it damages the regime in every conceivable way. However, that isn’t how our mentally impaired president sees it. He means to vindicate the 10-year old judgment of his former Obama administration colleague Robert Gates that Biden is a moron.

Speaking to reporters in Washington, Biden advised Israel to respond “proportionally” to the attack. Asked whether he backs a strike on Iranian nuclear sites, Biden responded: “The answer is no.” Israel is to wait for the day when the Iranian regime can place nuclear explosives on those ballistic missiles.

I urge interested readers to read Can Kasapoğlu’s Hudson Institute commentary “The Israel-Iran War Enters a New Stage.” I haven’t read anything like it in the corporate media. This is the executive summary of Kasapoğlu’s analysis:

• By launching a large-scale missile attack against Israel on October 1, Iran has made a critical attempt to regain escalation dominance.

• This strike differed from Iran’s April 13 attack. This time, Iran employed a blitz salvo of ballistic missiles rather than a mixed strike package of drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles, giving Israel minimal warning.

• The Iranian ballistic missile barrage saturated, and to some extent evaded, Israel’s air and missile defense architecture. Israel’s passive defenses, especially its public shelters and hardened military bases, provided extensive protection to civilians and defense equipment.

• An Iranian attack with weapons of mass destruction would be catastrophic for Israel at its current interception rate.

Query what a “proportional” response to the Iranian attack would be.
