The Border Fiasco, Northern Edition [Updated]

When I was a kid, it was a proud boast that the US-Canada border is the longest unguarded border in the world. That is still true, but we may need to start guarding it. Our northern border is not as much of a disaster as the southern border, only because it is so far from Mexico. But things are getting much worse:

The number of migrants caught crossing a stretch of the US-Canada border that includes northern New York has skyrocketed — increasing more than 50-fold under the Biden-Harris administration.

This year, illegal crossings surpassed the number for the last 17 years combined.

That chart sums up the incompetence of the Biden/Harris administration as well as anything, unless you assume they are trying to destroy our country, in which case they are highly effective.

I have often wondered, who are the illegal border crossers on our northern border? We have had a little publicity about this in Minnesota, too, far to the west of this Post story.

The Border Patrol agents in the Swanton sector — which includes more than 200 miles of land border between Maine and the St. Lawrence River in New York — apprehended more than 19,000 illegal migrants from 97 different countries in fiscal year 2024….

97 different countries! Ain’t multiculturalism grand? No doubt some of them are Middle Eastern, and no doubt a good number of those who weren’t caught–the border is unguarded–were Middle Easterners with evil intent. If you were an Iranian mullah, a leader of Hamas or Hezbollah, or anyone else who wants to do America harm, why wouldn’t you walk across the unguarded northern border?

Oh yeah, the anti-Americans have thought of that:

And among them have been at least 321 terror suspects as of the end of August – with the numbers for September still not logged into Customs and Border Protection’s data.

In the year prior, there were 484 suspected terrorists apprehended.

The threat of terror suspects coming from Canada is very real.

Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, a 20-year-old Pakistani legally living in Canada on a student visa who was allegedly on his way to the US border to carry out a massacre of NYC Jews, that he hoped would be “the largest US attack since 9/11.”

And again, those are the ones who–amazingly enough–were caught. While nowhere near as major a crisis as the southern border disaster, the insanely adverse trend at the northern border shows how crazy the Biden/Harris immigration policies have been. Are Biden and Harris trying to get us killed? If you think the answer is No, one can only ask: what is your evidence for that conclusion?

UPDATE: The Daily Mail has a story on the northern border which mainly focuses on the heroic job being done by border agents. Of course, as in the South, the problem is not the border agents, it is the Biden/Harris administration, which has deliberately opened the floodgates in hopes of political gain.

Remember the good old days when people who were breaking the law tried to avoid detection? Those times are long gone. These guys are walking proudly down the middle of the road with their hands up. You can imagine the dialogue:

Thank goodness you are here! I was starting to get cold. I’m not used to this weather!

Oh, I almost forgot–Asylum! Asylum!

Now, where is my free phone? I need to call my relatives and tell them I have arrived safely.

I’m hungry, can you get me something to eat? Also, I have always wanted to go to college. I understand I can go to college for free in Minnesota. I have never had much in the way of health care, either, and I have some health issues. I can get free medical care in Minnesota.

So buy me a plane ticket to Minnesota, and make it quick.

This is the world we are living in today. A Harris/Walz world would only be worse.
