There are some early optimistic signs for Trump and Republicans in the hard data on turnout that is available, leading to this Tweet/X from the straight-shooting data maven Patrick Ruffini:
UPDATE: The exit polls are increasingly crappy these days and should be ignored, but I’m starting to get a distinct 1980 election vibe from the body language of the early reporting in CNN. In 1980, which was thought to be like this election—too close to call—the early exit polls made it clear that Reagan was going to win a landslide, but the networks couldn’t say so. Right now CNN is sounding very pessimistic with comments like this:
