We arrived early at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport this morning to catch the first flight to Washington, D.C. When we stopped for coffee, my wife pointed out the Minnesota State–Mankato Mavericks women’s hockey team. They stood together smiling at the entry to the concourse where we were headed. They told me they were traveling to Dartmouth for games this Friday and Saturday. That took me by surprise. I told them Dartmouth was my alma mater and recommended they check out Lou’s for breakfast.
The young ladies happily waited together for the rest of their teammates. I asked if I could have my wife snap a picture of me with them and took the liberty of opining that they must be the best looking women’s college hockey team in the country. They seemed to take it in the spirit intended. They actually said thank you. It occurred to me that a “trans” player could do a lot of damage in this sport. I hope we never find out how much.
I will be happy whoever wins the games this weekend, but I admired the ladies. Please forgive the self-indulgent photo. I only wanted to share a happy experience on this happy Thanksgiving — and wish you all such a Thanksgiving.
CORRECTION: I originally thought the ladies were the Gophers team, but have corrected myself after checking the Dartmouth schedule. Sorry! Mavericks fans should be proud.
