James Biden’s Pardon Wasn’t the Worst

As Steve’s chart shows, the sheer number of pardons issued by Joe Biden shatters all previous records. There has been much outrage over the pardons given to members of Biden’s family who shared in his bribery enterprise, to Anthony Fauci, and the January 6 committee members.

But perhaps the most outrageous of such actions was Biden’s commutation of Leonard Peltier’s life sentence for murdering two FBI agents. The murders happened in 1975, on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota. The FBI agents, trying to arrest a robbery suspect, were ambushed by a group of Indian terrorists that included, and I believe was led by, Peltier. The agents were wounded in a gun battle and then shot in the head.

You may wonder, why in the world would the murderer of two FBI agents be a candidate for commutation? The answer is that Peltier was a darling of the identitarian Left. CNN calls the murderer an “indigenous activist,” while leftists call Peltier a political prisoner and a hero. Peltier fandom isn’t limited to the fringe: Elizabeth Warren–no doubt influenced by her supposed Indian heritage–and Bernie Sanders asked Biden to commute Peltier’s sentence in 2023.

The FBI Agents Association, a group with far less political clout than the radical leftists lined up behind the cop-killer, denounced the commutation as a “cruel betrayal to the families and colleagues of these fallen Agents and…a slap in the face of law enforcement.” Yes. But who cares about that? No one in the Democratic Party, and no one in the recent leadership of the FBI itself, which went over to the other side.
