Ted Kennedy de-bunked again

About a week ago, I posted an impassioned denunciation of the war against Saddam by Ted Kennedy that appeared in the Washington Post. I pointed out the contradiction between Kennedy’s claims that the war was based on short-term political calculation and, at the same time, on longstanding deeply held ideological beliefs. I also noted that Kennedy had produced no evidence at all to support his claim that President Bush made claims about Iraq’s WMD program that he did not believe to be true.
Today, the Post’s Fred Hiatt makes my first point and goes on to argue that Bush inherited a failed Iraq policy under which our goal was regime change that Clinton “didn’t know” how to bring about. It’s good to see the Post finally call Kennedy on his bombastic assertions. The only thing better would be to decline to publish pieces that can’t pass the straight-face test.
