Let the games begin

It will be fascinating (and probably horrifying) to observe the Democratic House majority deal with the issue of Iraq. First, as Power Line Forum participant Curmudgeon notes in the post below, there’s the matter of the Blue Dog Democrats who conceivably could form their own distinctive wing. But even if they don’t on this issue, there still is huge potential for a clash between the Clintonian pragmatist wing and the pure leftists. The pragmatists will be tempted to rally behind whatever the Baker-Hamilton commission proposes regarding Iraq. It won’t matter much to them what the proposal is — these, after all, are Clintonians to whom politics are primary and substance is an afterthought. But if Baker-Hamilton proposal falls substantially short of cut and run, it will be unacceptable to the Murtha element. At that point, all bets are off.
