Dakota Wood — A Patriot runs for Congress

Dakota Wood is a retired Marine Corps Lt. Col. After graduating from the Naval Academy in 1985, he served in the Marines for 20 years.

Following his retirement from the Marines, Wood provided support to the Department of Homeland Security, serving as Operations Officer for the National Biosurveillance Integration System, an initiative intended to provide warning of a potential biological threat to the country. He then served as a Senior Fellow at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA) in Washington, DC, where he specialized in studying the evolving operational challenges of land warfare, irregular warfare, and complex contingencies.

Now, Wood is running for Congress in Oklahoma’s Second District. The seat is currently held by Dan Boren, a conservative Democrat who is retiring from Congress. The district was redrawn slightly in 2011. Both Larry Sabato and Charlie Cook have it “leaning Republican.”

The Republican primary will take place on June 26.

Although he is Oklahoma born and bred, Wood must overcome the fact that he has been away from the State throughout his adult life. Like Tom Cotton, though, Wood has been away from Oklahoma because his quest to serve his country took him away.

Wood is one of America’s most respected analysts of defense-related issues. As such, he would be a huge asset in Congress, especially at a time when the resources being devoted to defense will be shrinking – perhaps radically so.
