As John’s post below suggests, there’s little chance that the MSM will ever provide fair or balanced coverage of anything relating to the war in Iraq. Those interested in a fuller, unfiltered picture, at least with respect to what’s happened on the ground, can consult the book Operation Homecoming, an anthology written by men and women who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and their family members. The book is the outgrowth of a project sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. The NEA brought a number of distinguished writers to military installations, where they conducted workshops to help the troops and their families share their stories.
The MSM has largely ignored the book. But then it would, wouldn’t it.
JOHN adds: Saddam Husssein tells his supporters that “victory is at hand.” Well, he could be right. He reads American newspapers, and he knows what everyone is predicting for November 7. The fact that Saddam is still alive is one of the major failures of this early phase of Iraq’s hoped-for regeneration.
