Mona Charen comments on the disingenuousness of those who seem surprised that Justice Thomas’ new book adopts an angry tone towards those who attempted to destroy his reputation before a worldwide audience. Charen notes that while there is anger in the book, “there is also tenderness, vulnerability, brutal honesty. . .overflowing gratitude [and] unswerving intellectual integrity.” As I wondered last weekend, do Thomas’s liberal critics expect him to depict the assault on his character by Senate Dems as a sitcom?
The reaction of Nina Tottenberg, Ruth Marcus, etc. reminds me of the following old joke:
Farmer: “I had to shoot my dog.”
Neighbor: “Was he mad.”
Farmer: “He wasn’t too pleased.”
