Abid Hamad Mahmud, Saddam Hussein’s captured aide, has told interrogators that Saddam and his two sons all survived the Iraq war. Mahmud says they split up early in the war to lessen the likelihood of their capture; he claims the two sons fled to Syria at one point but were forced to return to Iraq. It is unclear whether he has any recent intelligence on the Husseins’ whereabouts, but most likely no such information has been forthcoming.
As always, of course, information from captured Iraqis must be treated with skepticism, especially accounts given at the outset of interrogation.
