Next Wednesday, Iraq will introduce a new Saddam-free currency. The photo below shows a bank employee burning stacks of the old money, which featured the dictator’s picture. It’s hard to overestimate the importance of this kind of tangible sign to the Iraqi people that the old order really is gone for good, and that better times are coming.
