The Washington Times notes two polls that show a seismic shift in Catholic voting patterns. The Barna group released a poll yesterday that showed President Bush leading John Kerry 53% to 39%, a nineteen-point swing since Barna polled Catholics in May. And the Pew Research Center released a poll showing Bush with a ten-point lead among Catholics.
This kind of fundamental change is driven by the chasm that currently divides the parties on defense policy and social issues, which dwarfs in significance the President’s smoothness, or lack thereof, in the first “debate.”
