Jimmy Carter: Still Selling Out America
Jimmy Carter gave an interview to the foreign press to promote his new Civil War novel, but he couldn't resist talking about the upcoming election. The Scotsman reports; here are some Carter quotes:
If it comes out wrong [i.e., if President Bush is re-elected], I think we will see a continuation of what we have now. America believes military power should be exerted whenever it becomes interesting for our economic or political gains.
"Whenever it becomes interesting for our economic or political gains"? I'm not sure even Michael Moore has gone that far. Not a word about al Qaeda or Islamic terrorism; just "economic gains." Unbelievable.
I think it’s going to result in a sustained stalemate and deterioration in the Middle East peace process, and I think our country will continue to abbreviate, to some degree, our civil liberties at home.
"Deterioration in the Middle East peace process"? The man is delusional. The "peace process" blew up a long time ago, and it wasn't President Bush who started bombing buses and restaurants. And if the administration ever decides to "abbreviate" someone's civil liberties--whatever that means--I hope they'll start with Jimmy Carter.
I think we will continue to try and exert our power around the world, when we could just as well bring a peaceful resolution to differences.
So we could "just as well" resolve our "differences" with Islamic terrorists peacefully? And how might that be? Should we invite Zawahiri and Zarqawi to a summit conference? How exactly do you resolve "differences" peacefully when the "difference" is that they want us dead, and we want to live? Mr. Peanut might consider asking the Israelis that question.
We have had a very disturbing change in our country in the last three or four years: from a 200-year history of war as a last resort to ‘pre-emptive war’. We have to attack other people in order to prevent danger to ourselves and, of course, now aerial bombing and long-range missiles attack both military and civilian populations with impunity.
At last we see an antiseptic reference to "danger to ourselves;" no hint, of course, as to what that "danger" might be. Carter mentions attacking civilians with impunity--is he finally talking about al Qaeda and Sept. 11? Or maybe about Saddam's murdering hundreds of thousands of innocent people? No, of course not. He means us! What a complete and utter moron.
It is a very disturbing thing, but, in some countries, going to war exalts the status and political popularity of the incumbent leader. This is another disturbing human trait.
Did you catch that "in some countries"? Do you suppose he means us? Maybe Australia too. Certainly not Spain. Mr. Peanut considers it a "disturbing human trait" that most voters want a President who will do his best to keep them from being murdered by terrorists. In general, Carter seems to find the world a disturbing place. I think that's because he's disturbed.
Jimmy Carter has long ago passed by the point of being an embarrassment. He is now treasonous, fanning the flames of anti-Americanism abroad, and adopting uncritically the perspective of our mortal enemies.
UPDATE: A reader says that Carter is scheduled to be on the Letterman show tonight. No doubt his stated purpose is to plug his book. How long do you suppose it will take Carter and Letterman to turn the subject to the election?
