Joe Zawinul. RIP


Seth Leibsohn writes to note yesterday”s passing of Joe Zawinul, “the great jazz musical composer.” Seth sends along the video of “Birdland,” Zawinul’s “most famous hit that every jazz musician knows and is grateful to him for, courtesty of Maynard Fereguson.” Here is a video of Zawinul having a go at it himself with Weather Report and the late Jaco Pastorius going topless on bass in 1978.
