The dead end down which President Bush and Condoleezza Rice have led the United States in diplomatic maneuvers addressing the Arab-Israeli conflict has many manifestations, one vivid example of which is President Bush's request for $150 million in funding to the Palestinian Authority. Joel Mowbray reports on the role that Mahmoud Abbas's Arab-language "gaffe" (i.e., "what happens when the spin breaks down") is playing in congressional consideration of the Bush administration's aid request. Joel credits the invaluable role of Palestinian Media Watch in bringing Abbas's "gaffe" to light:
The contents of that interview only came to public attention because of the tireless work of Palestinian Media Watch, which monitors a wide array of Palestinian media on a shoestring budget. And in the next week, PMW will be releasing a report titled “Since Annapolis,” which will detail how in the few months since this most recent round of peace talks, “the PA Abbas-controlled media has continued to send clear messages to its people that deny Israel's right to exist and anticipate its destruction,” according to PMW director and founder Itamar Marcus. Is anyone paying attention?
