No offense

Last week Rahm Emanuel expressed his disagreement with liberal groups attending a meeting with White House aides. The liberal groups discussed their plan to air ads attacking conservative Democrats balking at Obamacare. Drawing on his standard fund of eloquence, Emanuel upbraided the group with the epithet “f***ing retarded.”
Today Ben Smith and Jake Tapper report that Emanuel has acknowledged calling liberal Democrats “retarded” and apologized for the remark — to Tim Shriver, the chairman and CEO of the Special Olympics, which has launched a campaign against what it calls “the R word.” In an update Smith adds (as has been pointed out to him by a Democrat) that no apology was extended to the liberals Emanuel called “retarded.”
