Benghazi: Obama passes the buck

Who is responsible for the failure to answer the urgent pleas for help that were issued during the attack in Benghazi? Paul considered the question yesterday here, reasonably attributing the responsibility to President Obama.

We know the CIA denies responsibility. That’s certainly a credible denial, but now the White House (with considerably less credibility) has joined in:

The White House on Saturday flatly denied that President Barack Obama withheld requests for help from the besieged American compound in Benghazi, Libya, as it came under on attack by suspected terrorists on September 11th.

“Neither the president nor anyone in the White House denied any requests for assistance in Benghazi,” National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor told Yahoo News by email.

Ace of Spades comments here. Daniel Halper comments here. Bill Kristol’s ten questions bear on the analysis.

Where was President Obama? What did he have to say? Doesn’t the buck stop with the president? These seem to me the obvious questions raised by the White House statement.

UPDATE: Bill Kristol returns this morning with a few more questions for President Obama.
