Hungry Venezuelans Raid Zoo For Food

In socialist Venezuela, it has come to this:

A gang in search of food broke into a zoo at night and butchered a horse for food, it has been reported.

The shocking incident in Caracas has been held up as an example of the desperation of the Venezuelan people who are enduring a severe economic crisis.

With looting and food shortages commonplace, it’s been reported that several people forced their way into Caricuao Zoo in search of food.

When they found the black stallion’s area, they broke in and led the animal, to a secluded area, reports Fusion .

Apparently they aren’t the first; several Vietnamese pigs and sheep were slaughtered in the zoo earlier this summer.

The animals themselves are starving for lack of food as Venezuela’s crisis deepens.

This story is from the Mirror. To that paper’s credit, the story does use the word “socialist,” unlike many accounts of Venezuela’s collapse in the liberal press. It even contains a succinct explanation of why Venezuelans are starving as a result of socialist policies:

Venezuela’s socialist rulers are being blamed for the worsening food shortages, with their strict price controls and foreign exchange controls making food imports and production unprofitable.

Someone should explain that to Bernie Sanders and the millions of suckers who voted for him.
