He plays soccer for Everton, the team I follow. And because he’s so exceptional, he also plays for the English national team despite being only 17 years old. Today, he became the youngest player ever to score for England. And a crucial goal it was, bringing England level against Macedonia in a match it had to win to stay on course for qualifying for next year’s European championship competition. England went on to win 2-1 on a penalty kick by England’s most famous player, David Beckham. After the match, Beckham said “Wayne’s a great lad and a great talent, with a great family and great friends, who plays for a good club.” Thanks, David. Here’s an account of the match.
