Not totally silent

Last night, I posted a piece about female participation in parliamentary elections in Kuwait. Noting that this was part of a trend towards increased voting rights for women, I concluded that “this development deserves more attention from our media and our feminists than it has received.” So far, so good I think.

But then I added as my title, “The Silence of the Feminists,” suggesting that feminists were giving the trend no attention. As my friend David Schraub points out, however, a number of feminist blogs have lauded the fact that women participated in the Kuwait election. Thus, feminist blogs are not ignoring this matter entirely, and the title of my piece was inaccurate.

Next, perhaps David will send me links to feminist blogs that praise the efforts of the Bush administration to promote women’s rights in Iraq — efforts that cost my old law adversary Fern Holland her life.
