Air America Is Still On the Air? Who Knew?

Air America hostess Randi Rhodes was last heard from when she apparently passed out on a street in New York, and claimed to have been mugged. Now, she’s been suspended from Air America because of a rant she delivered–or maybe it was a stand-up comedy routine, it’s hard to say–before a group of Democrats on March 22. What’s being reported is that she called Hillary Clinton a “big f****** whore,” and that’s true, but it’s only the tip of the iceberg. She insults everyone from Ronald Reagan to Geraldine Ferraro; you should only watch it if you can tolerate bad language. Amazingly enough, she appears to be sober:

What’s funny about this story is this statement by Air America’s chairman, Charlie Kireker, explaining Rhodes’s suspension from the network:

Air America encourages strong opinions about public affairs but does not condone such abusive, ad hominem language by our Hosts.

That’s pretty funny if you think about it. Randi Rhodes has advocated assassinating President Bush and suggested that Mitt Romney’s supporters are likely to commit mass murder. “Abusive, ad hominem language” describes pretty much everything Rhodes has said about the Bush administration for as long as she’s been on the radio. What Air America really means is, they can’t tolerate abusive, ad hominem language about Democrats.
Actually, the only way I find out that Air America is still broadcasting is when this kind of thing happens. I assumed they’d gone out of business after going bankrupt some time ago; apparently not so.
