Reports: Ebola nurse in “fair” to “good” condition

Nina Pham, the Dallas nurse who was infected with the Ebola virus, is in good condition and improving, according to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. Pham has been transferred to the NIH hospital here in Maryland for reasons of “staffing.” Dozens of employees at the Dallas hospital are treating only Pham, and this is jeopardizing the ability to care for other patients.

NIH described Pham’s condition in less favorable terms. She is in “fair” and “stable” condition, said Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Pham appeared in a video before her transfer from Dallas to Maryland. She seemed in pretty good spirits, as she urges fellow staff members to come “party” with her in Maryland.

Two Americans have already been treated successfully for Ebola. Dr. Kent Brantly is one. He is providing blood for other victims, on the theory that it contains antibodies with which the body can fight the disease. A patient who received such a transfusion reportedly has fully recovered and another reportedly is making great progress.

Pham has now received a transfusion. Let’s hope that she is on the road to recovery, as well.
