Trump turns to the government for help — again

Donald Trump is the worst kind of bully — the kind who enlists other bullies to help him. The most obvious example is the way he tries to use government to deprive people of their property rights in order to carry on with his building projects. Robert Verbruggen recounted some of this history here in a 2011 article.

Now, Trump wants the government to go after Rich Lowry. Last night on Megyn Kelly’s program, Lowry opined that Carly Fiorina “cut [Trump’s] balls off with the precision of a surgeon.”

The comment was inappropriate and not really accurate (Fiorina got the better of Trump in the debate, but not to anything like that extent.) But Trump’s response is pathetic. He tweeted:

Incompetent @RichLowry lost it tonight on @FoxNews. He should not be allowed on TV and the FCC should fine him!

and

@FoxNews owes me an apology for allowing clueless pundit @RichLowry to use such foul language on TV. Unheard of!

Trump built a good portion of his political appeal by being politically incorrect. Now, he wants the government to fine, and Fox News to fire, a pundit for being politically incorrect. (As I understand it, by the way, the FCC does not police cable television for this sort of thing.)

This is like running to daddy ( Trump’s was quite wealthy) for help. It also brings to mind Stanley Kurtz’s five questions on Donald Trump, one of which is: Will President Trump use the IRS the way candidate Trump wants to use the FCC?

In other news, Trump claims he knows more about Syria than Marco Rubio because all Rubio does is sit on committees and read, whereas Trump creates jobs all day. This brings to mind Marge Schott’s critique of baseball scouts: “All they do is sit around and watch ball games.”

As Yogi Berra said: “You can observe a lot just by watching.” Rubio has been watching Syria; Trump apparently has been too busy creating jobs — and going after people’s property.
