President Obama spoke briefly on the Orlando massacre yesterday. The White House has posted his remarks here. The remarks are almost entirely formulaic and vacuous.
Obama referred to the massacre as “an act of terror and an act of hate.” In the course of perpetrating the massacre, Omar Mateen reportedly made a 911 call pledging allegiance to the Islamic State. Obama nevertheless plugged gun control and omitted any mention of Islam or the Islamic State.
Obama has previously expounded on the Islamic State. According to him, the Islamic State — they’re un-Islamic. It’s probably for the best that Obama exercised his right to remain silent on the subject yesterday.
Obama isn’t much of a defender of the United States in word or deed. He prefers to stand up for the good name of Islam. When it comes to the defense of Islam, he’s got his heart is in it.
