And captured in Minnesota, no less. I wrote about the case of Said Jama Ahmed on Wednesday as he made his initial appearance in federal court in Minnesota.

It turns out that Jama is a bona fide Somali pirate. The U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) posted on Twitter (X) earlier today.
DHS goes on to recount,
This [2012] threat occurred during an encounter when the U.S.S. Halsey responded to a distress call from a vessel that had been hijacked by pirates in the Gulf of Aden.
Ahmed first illegally entered our nation under the Biden administration in 2022. He was issued a full extradition warrant dated 4/24/2025.
The Daily Caller claims an “Exclusive” on the story. Where were they on Wednesday? The Daily Caller reports on Ahmed’s capture,
On the night of April 14, an off-duty Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer initially reported seeing Ahmed walking southbound with a backpack several miles north of the U.S.-Canada border.
About two hours later, a U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agent located Ahmed, made contact, and took him into custody. He is currently being held by USBP in the District of North Dakota on charges related to illegal entry.
Ahmed was also indicted in the Minnesota district exactly one year ago today (4/24/2025) with one criminal count of misuse of that forged Somali passport. It took nearly a year for him to see the inside of a courtroom. He was “released” at Wednesday’s hearing, presumably back into the hands of ICE custody.
Ahoy, mateys!
