Most of the votes still remain to be counted in yesterday’s local and regional elections in the United Kingdom. But the upstart, right-leaning U.K. Reform party is already the clear winner.
In city council elections across England, Reform has won more seats than any other party. At times during the count, the ruling Labour party (in red) has fallen to fourth place, behind Reform, Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives.
The other big winner has been the 5th place, far-left Green party.
Labour are the big losers, of course, as the ruling party in an off-year election. What is also stunning is the complete collapse of the Conservative party, which traces its roots back to 1678.
The Labour party is losing most of the seats they are defending.
The results for the Scottish Parliament show relative little change from before. But even there, Reform was the big gainer in seats and finished tied for second place with Labour, both well behind the local Scottish National Party.
Reform made a bigger surge in races for seats in the Welsh parliament. Reform finished alone in second place in Wales and appear ready to form the official opposition party.
Projecting these results into an election for the national parliament, Reform would have taken first place, perhaps short of a majority, but with Nigel Farage as Prime Minister.
