Pirate Wires editor in chief Mike Solana brings us up to date on the Los Angeles mayor’s race this morning:
Former charming reality television villain and present day LA mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt surged above 20% in the prediction markets following his tremendous debate against incumbent Clown World Karen Bass, who presided over the city’s disastrous response to the LA Palisades fires, and Nithya Raman, a sociopathic Marxist city councilmember. Once considered a joke — by every outlet other than Pirate Wires — Former charming reality television villain and present day LA mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt surged above 20% in the prediction markets following his tremendous debate against incumbent Clown World Karen Bass, who presided over the city’s disastrous response to the LA Palisades fires, and Nithya Raman, a sociopathic Marxist city councilmember. Once considered a joke — by every outlet other than Pirate Wires — it turns out there’s still tremendous political alpha in simply getting on a stage and telling the truth.
Pratt forcefully picked apart the fires, homelessness, drugs and crime, explained exactly how the women on stage with him perversely stood in favor of further chaos, and shared his plan to help the city. Now, the whole country is watching. The primary is only in a few weeks, and Spencer’s odds are low, but he achieved the most important thing in politics in 2026: he got our attention. I don’t know that “a star is born.” If Pratt doesn’t make it out of the primary, it seems more likely that reality television beckons the star again. A quick look at Kalshi this morning — my first ever, so trust but verify — shows Pratt making it out of the primary to face Bass, who remains the likely winner of the mayoral election.
At the same time Pratt and socialist Nithya Raman are tied for second among those betting on the outcome of the mayoral election following the primary. Bass remains the likely winner of the primary and mayoral election among those putting their money down. Let it be: “[I]t turns out there’s still tremendous political alpha in simply getting on a stage and telling the truth.” On the other hand, it may amount to nothing more than momentary discomfort for the victims of the truth.
Pirate Wires has also posted “The case for Spencer Pratt,” a long account of the mayoral contest by Adeline Dimond. Dimond’s account is based in part on her personal experience and observations as a citizen of Los Angeles. Dimond supports Pratt, but she credits Bass as a purveyor of “reality distortion” with the demeanor of “a nice grandma.” Place your bets now! Or, as the requisite euphemism has it, put your money on your predictions!
Coincidentally, law enforcement authorities raided MacArthur Park in the daylight yesterday. Jimmy Webb, call your office.
The linked story on the raid gives us Mayor Bass’s statement: “As we work to change MacArthur Park so that it’s safe and clean for families, we have zero tolerance for people who deal deadly drugs and prey on the community. We will continue to aggressively pursue our comprehensive strategy to restore MacArthur Park.”
Dimond also takes up the subject of MacArthur Park at some length in her column. Speaking as it does of Bass’s proclivity for “reality distortion,” Dimond’s column could not be more timely.
