Lamont Runs Away From His Roots

It now appears clear that Ned Lamont will defeat Senator Joe Lieberman in the Democratic primary on Tuesday. Recently, though, Lamont has been badly embarrassed by the far-left bloggers who are the heart and soul of his campaign, and arae pretty much responsible for his emergence as a serious candidate. Michelle Malkin has the story:

US Senate candidate Ned Lamont of Connecticut, darling of the left-wing blogosphere, is now running as fast as he can from the nutball bloggers who have zealously promoted his campaign against Sen. Joe Lieberman from its inception. (Today’s Vent gives the overview.) And he’s lying through his teeth in his effort to rid himself of the stain.

Reeling from the idiotic blackface stunt pulled by his close blogger confidante, Jane Hamsher, yesterday, Lamont actually told News Channel 8’s Jamie Muro this:

“I don’t know anything about the blogs, I’m not responsible for those, I have no comment on ’em…Independent blogs, I can’t say anything about it.”

Michelle goes on to document the absurdity of Lamont’s effort to distance himself from the irresponsible left.

In the meantime, though, Lamont’s embarrassment won’t stand in the way of victory in the primary. Will this be the first big win for the lefty bloggers? Maybe so. But that depends, obviously, on what happens in the general election. In all likelihood, Lieberman will win:

Quinnipiac’s July 20 poll of 2,520 Connecticut voters showed Lieberman, running as an independent, ahead in a three-way general election with 51 percent compared with 27 percent for Lamont and 9 percent for Republican Alan Schlesinger.

In order for this to be a victory for the Nutroots, doesn’t Lamont have to actually win? Otherwise, the Lamont primary victory will just be more evidence that the left-wing blogosphere hurts the Democratic Party by pushing it to the far–that is, unelectable–left.
