Take Back South Dakota, Part II

We wrote here about Kristi Noem, who is running for South Dakota’s only Congressional seat, now held by Democrat Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin. Noem scored an impressive victory in the GOP primary, defeating the sitting Secretary of State. Noem is a young, dynamic candidate; as a farmer and rancher who also runs a hunting operation and a restaurant, she has a solid background in the private sector.
This is a seat that by rights should be held by a Republican. If 2010 is to be a huge year for the GOP and not merely a good one, it is the kind of seat that we need to reclaim. Happily, Scott Rasmussen finds that the seat is within reach, as his first survey following Noem’s primary victory has her ahead of Herseth-Sandlin–a thoroughly mediocre Congresswoman–by 53-41 percent.
Of course, there is a long way to go until November, and the Democrats will throw the kitchen sink at Noem. They have already called her an “extremist” and “the Sarah Palin of South Dakota.” Somehow, I don’t think that last gibe will strike South Dakota voters the way the Democrats intend.
One nice thing about a small-population state like South Dakota is that its media markets are cheap, and small contributions can go a long way. We would encourage you to go to Kristi Noem’s web site, check out her views on the issues, and contribute to her campaign.
UPDATE: I’m glad to learn that our friend Derek Brigham is doing Noem’s campaign materials–a guarantee of quality.
