Valerie Jarrett’s daughter will cover Justice Department for CNN

Kerry Picket of the Daily Caller reports that CNN has hired Valerie Jarrett’s daughter Laura Jarrett to cover the Trump Justice Department. Valerie Jarrett was a senior adviser to Barack Obama during both of the ex-president’s terms.

What qualifies Laura Jarrett for this gig? According to her CNN bio, she graduated from Harvard Law School in 2010. At Harvard she was an editor for the Harvard Journal of Law and Gender and published her own articles “on the intersection of gender, violence, and the law.”

Perfect.

After graduation and two judicial clerkships, Jarrett “worked as a litigation attorney in Chicago.” In private practice, she “focused on defending companies and individuals in government investigations brought by the Justice Department and Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as complex commercial litigation.”

Thus, Jarrett may have experience interacting, as an associate in a law firm, with one or two nooks and crannies of the DOJ, but nothing that likely approaches broad familiarity the Department.

What about Jarrett’s journalism background? Until September 2016 when CNN hired her, she had none.

Since then, according to Pickett, Jarrett’s work ranges from the “treatment of black lawmakers” during Sen. Jeff Sessions confirmation hearings to asking if Donald Trump “can send American citizens to Guantanamo Bay.”

Perfect.

Does anyone believe that Laura Jarrett would be assigned to cover the Justice Department for CNN if she lacked such strong connections to Team Obama? Does anyone believe that Laura Jarrett will cover the Justice Department in an unbiased fashion? Does anyone believe that CNN wants her to?

I don’t see how anyone can believe any of these propositions.
