President Trump has just posted on Truth Social:
I AM PLEASE[D] TO REPORT THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE COUNTRY OF IRAN, HAVE HAD, OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS, VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS REGARDING A COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF OUR HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST. BASED ON THE TENOR AND TONE OF THESE IN DEPTH, DETAILED, AND CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS, WITCH WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, I HAVE INSTRUCTED THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR TO POSTPONE ANY AND ALL MILITARY STRIKES AGAINST IRANIAN POWER PLANTS AND ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A FIVE DAY PERIOD, SUBJECT TO THE SUCCESS OF THE ONGOING MEETINGS AND DISCUSSIONS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!
At last word, Iran’s terms for peace included “a ceasefire, guarantees that the war will not resume in the future, and compensation.” I trust that Iran is in a more giving mood — as the Wateragate witnesses used to put it — “at this point in time.”

UPDATE by JOHN: President Trump held one of his impromptu chats with reporters this morning, in which he elaborated on what is going on:
Speaking to the press in Florida, the US president claimed that Iran had “called” the US to make a deal, and referred to his plans to postpone strikes on Iran’s power plants.
He said: “Tomorrow morning, sometime their time, we were expecting to blow up their largest electric generating plants that cost over ten billion US dollars to build.
“It was a very good one, there was no dearth of money. One shot it is gone. It collapses. Why would they want that? So they called, I didn’t call. They called. They want to make a deal.
“And we are very willing to make a deal. It’s got to be a good deal, and it’s got to be no more wars, no more nuclear weapons. They’re not going to have nuclear weapons anymore. They’re agreeing to that. Any of that stuff, there is no deal.”
Trump on Monday suggested the price of oil “will drop like a rock” should a deal be struck with Iran to end the war, but added he was not guaranteeing it would happen.
He said: “The price of oil will drop like a rock as soon as a deal is done. I guess it already is today.” But then the US president cautioned that a deal was far from ready, adding: “No, we have a very serious chance of making a deal. That doesn’t guarantee anything. I am not guaranteeing anything.
“I’m not going to come out here in a week or two weeks, and have you all say, ‘Oh, you said’ — I didn’t say anything. All I’m saying is we are in the throes of a real possibility of making a deal.”
The discussions occurred on Sunday and Trump said he hoped they would continue on Monday “by phone”.
“We’ll at some point very soon meet. We’re doing a five-day period, we’ll see how that goes … Otherwise, we’ll just keep bombing our little hearts out.”
NOW: President Trump reveals Iran is "very much" looking to negotiate, saying if they can't make a deal, the U.S. will "keep bombing our little hearts out."
"We're doing a five day period. We'll see how that goes and if it goes well, we're going to end up with, settling this.… pic.twitter.com/eihgCeRzNP

I hope this isn’t premature, and I hope it doesn’t condemn 90 million Iranians to more decades of tyranny. If peace does ensue on favorable terms, the price of oil plummets, and prophets of doom are made to look ridiculous, then one thing we know for sure is: Democrats hardest hit.
MORE: Mohammad Baqher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, denies that any negotiations are ongoing, or any agreement has been reached. Instead, he reiterates the bombastic threats to which we are accustomed. So at this point, the only thing we know for sure is that there will be a brief hiatus in our (and, I take it, Israel’s) bombing campaign.
