Justice Ginsburg: Abolish Mother’s Day

The Left has been conducting an open campaign lately to persuade coerce Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whose health has been shaky the last few years, to retire immediately so that President Obama can replace her with a high octane liberal while Democrats still have a majority in the Senate.  Nothing speaks “confidence” in your prospects more than trying to push a loyal soldier out the door.  So far the crusade is failing, and I hope she hangs on for exactly the reason the Left wants her out.

A few years back Ginsburg said overseas that she thought the South African constitution, chock full of all kinds of positive welfare state “rights” as is typical of contemporary constitutions, was superior to our own Constitution.  But our friends at the Ethics and Public Policy Center have dug up a fascinating document from 1974, “The Legal Status of Women Under Federal Law,” that Ginsburg co-authored with Brenda Feigen Fasteau, and it makes for illuminating reading—especially the part where Ginsburg and Fasteau advocate abolishing “Mother’s Day” in favor of “Parent’s Day,” because it would be “more consistent with a policy of minimizing traditional sex-based differences in parental roles.”  Here:

There’s more at the EPPC link, including Ginsburg’s view that prostitution should be legal for the same reasons abortion should be legal (right to privacy, don’t you know), that single-sex prisons should be abolished because Equal Protection Clause, and that the Boy Scouts and Girls Scout.—oh heck, you know how this one ends, too.

Happy Mother’s Day, by the way.
