Jack Lew clams up

You have to love Rep. Sean Duffy, the congressman representing Wisconsin’s Seventh District. He showed his mettle today in a House hearing at which he questioned Jacob Lew, the United States Secretary of the Treasury. Secretary of the Treasury is a position that has been held by accomplished and prominent Americans going back to Alexander Hamilton. Tax cheat Timothy Geithner depreciated the currency of the office, so to speak, but it’s among the most respected in our government.

Lew appeared today to testify on the international financial system before the House Financial Services Committee, of which Rep. Duffy is a member. Reuters reports on his appearance before the committee today here.

Rep. Duffy questioned Lew about his email correspondence with Hillary Clinton in his former position as Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources in 2009-2010 (video below). Duffy asked Lew a few simple questions that reduced him to a mass of quivering jelly lest he accidentally utter a true word. Lew sounds like he’s afraid he may wind up sleeping with the fishes if he lets something slip. This is almost unbelievable.

I don’t think I’ve seen Duffy in action before. Mark him down as another one of the Republican Party’s rising stars.
