Breaking: Boehner Resigning

News is breaking this morning that House Speaker John Boehner is stepping down as Speaker and resigning from Congress at the end of October, which, as the New York Times is reporting, is “throwing Congress into chaos as it tries to avert a government shutdown. Mr. Boehner made the announcement in an emotional meeting with his fellow Republicans on Friday morning.”

I’m sure within the next few hours the full story will emerge as to whether he faced an ouster by a majority of the House GOP caucus. Meanwhile, will Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy succeed him, or is the House GOP caucus so fractious that someone else will have to emerge? Maybe there should be a Fox News candidate debate?

Remember: The Speaker of the House does not have to be an elected member of the House. An opening for Donald Trump? Bring back Newt?
