Today’s Happy Climate News!

I can’t decide whether this story is proof that climate change isn’t all gloom-and-doom all the time, or whether climate change is just one more aspect of the Oppressive Patriarchy. From Science Daily:

Climate change will see some males get sexier

A common marine crustacean has shown researchers that it’s all set to beat climate change – the males will get more attractive to the females, with a resulting population explosion. The University of Adelaide study is the first to show how mating behaviour could change under the warmer waters and more acidic oceans brought by climate change. . .

“On top of that, where there had been variation in large claw size throughout the population, suddenly all the males had large claws. This happened within a few generations.

“It seems that sexual selection for this attractiveness trait could mean that every male was equally attractive to the females, resulting in very large numbers of females – almost 80% – becoming pregnant, causing a massive population explosion.”

Meanwhile, remember how I reported here the other day that Leo DiCaprio was in trouble with the rain forest people? Well he’s going to make it up to all of us:

Leonardo DiCaprio to Produce Captain Planet Movie

Planned for the big screen for some time, it looks like a Captain Planet movie may finally become a reality. The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Appian Way Productions is teaming with Paramount Pictures for a live-action take on the environmentally-minded animated series.

Scream Queens star Glen Powell and writing partner Jono Matt are attached to provide the screenplay for the Captain Planet movie, inspired by the Turner Broadcasting and DIC Enterprises cartoon, Captain Planet and the Planeteers. The series premiered in 1990 and ran for six seasons.

Somewhere I still have my Captain Planet lunchbox and thermos, which I used to use as a prop at talks on environmentalism for all of the appalling errors of fact that appeared in just the minimal quotes that appeared on the lunchbox and thermos. I expect a live action movie will be just as bad.
