In yesterday’s House Oversight Committee hearing on holding Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt, a catfight broke out among Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene and Democrats Jasmine Crockett and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Insults were traded, involving Crockett’s fake eyelashes and Greene’s “bleach blonde bad built butch body.” You have to see it to believe it:

I suppose the decline of standards in Congress mirrors the decline of standards in our society generally.
For what it is worth, the committee did vote to hold Garland in contempt (as the Judiciary Committee had already done) for refusing to hand over audio tapes of Joe Biden’s interviews with Special Counsel Robert Hur. Garland asserts that the audio tapes (but not the transcript, evidently) are protected by executive privilege. I don’t know why that would be true, but I also don’t know why the tapes would add materially to what we already know through the transcripts. I suppose Biden sounds awful–far gone in dementia–on the tapes, so that they would be damaging, to some extent, if heard by voters. Whatever.
