As “Obama’s narrator” David Axelrod conceded in Believer, even voters who supported Barack Obama found serious problems with his policies. While many consider Obama a bust, in some ways he could be the most successful president of all time.
As Barry Rubin noted in Silent Revolution, the president enjoyed great success at selling the idea that the statist, high-regulation policies that had failed so spectacularly in Europe were precisely what America needed. Obama nearly doubled the national debt, and more than any other president succeeded in burdening generations not yet born. The composite character president successfully sold the idea that Americans should get only the health care the government wants them to have.
Obama surpassed other presidents in deploying the IRS and Justice Department against his domestic enemies. President Obama put time back on the clock for Cuba’s Stalinist dictatorship and shipped a planeload of cash to Iran’s Islamic regime. So on his own terms, the President Formerly Known as Barry Soetoro, was a huge success. That set an example for Joe Biden.
On his first day in office, Biden destroyed the border and the Delaware Democrat has succeeded in bringing in, by some counts, 10 million foreign nationals with no criminal background checks, health records, or job prospects. Biden succeeded in restricting domestic energy production and draining strategic reserves. He boosted inflation to levels not seen in decades and in his September 1, 2022 speech Biden branded those who want America to be great as a threat to the nation. And so on.
Supporters now concede that Joe Biden is demented and dysfunctional, but that reality comes accompanied with little if any criticism of Biden’s policies and the disastrous conditions that now prevail. As David Samuels explained last August in “The Obama Factor,” the composite character president is still running the country and is responsible for “the disaster that we are living through now.” That disaster is Obama’s Promised Land, and what Democrats want to continue under Joe Biden or any replacement they can find.
