The phenomenon of woke capitalism was deeply weird, and happily it seems to be coming to an end. This time it’s Toyota:
Toyota announced Thursday it will no longer sponsor LGBTQ parades and events and will no longer make efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
Toyota told employees it will no longer participate in the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index and other corporate surveys. Instead, it will “narrow our community activities to align with STEM education and workforce readiness,” the automaker explained in a memo to its 50,000 employees and 1,500 dealers.
Chalk up another one for Robby Starbuck, who has led a number of successful attacks on wokism.
I think Toyota’s reversion to sanity is especially significant, since it is not only a huge company, but also, unlike John Deere, Tractor Supply, and Jack Daniel’s, Toyota’s customer base is not conservative. It is universal. So Toyota’s awakening is a significant step forward.
