Personnel Changes

Steve Hayward has been with us since 2011, but he has decided to focus on longer-form writing projects. So he is bidding farewell to Power Line and our readers. You will be able to read his essays at his Substack page and elsewhere. And, of course, the 3 Whiskey Happy Hour will continue through its various outlets. We wish Steve well, and are grateful for 14 years of collaboration and friendship.

One consequence of Steve’s departure is that I will be taking over The Week In Pictures. I have, I know, big shoes to fill. If you have been sending memes, etc., to Steve, I would appreciate it if you would now begin sending them to me at [email protected]. Memes, cartoons, graphic images, headlines, girls with guns–we need them all.

We will be adding to our roster with at least one new PL writer. Stay tuned for further announcements.

STEVE adds: I am in fact going through almost physical withdrawal symptoms, seeing the 50 tabs I have open on my browser for possible material, not to mention what I see on my Twitter feed that screams for a post. But an abrupt, cold-turkey shift  is the right move to make. Trying to manage a halfway house hasn’t worked. The rhythms of daily blogging and commentary on the news of the day is making it harder for long-form pieces that have piled up—in a couple of cases literally for years now—to get the concentration required. TWiP alone takes a ton of time every week (as John is finding out), and although it has been huge fun, I just can’t keep it up any more, especially since, as of a week ago, my responsibilities to Pepperdine’s School of Public Policy have doubled, which is a very good thing. Already a mode shift just in the last three days has produced results a number of difficult projects (so you can stop bugging me Glenn!). I can’t imagine writing for any other general purpose site, as Power Line has been the ideal venue for my often gonzo ideas and formats. Power Line will remain the home page on all my browsers, and I’ll see everyone around I am sure.
