8 more charged in MN fraud

Joe Thompson, the Acting U.S. Attorney for Minnesota, held a press conference today and announced 8 new criminal charges in the state’s latest nine-digit fraud against a taxpayer-funded program. Scott Johnson attended the press conference in person, look for his report later.

The program involved is called Housing Stabilization Services (HSS). It’s a Medicaid offering run through the state’s Department of Human Services (DHS).

Don’t be confused, the program doesn’t actually provide housing, it provides housing advice. Actually, it doesn’t really do anything, almost the entire program was a scam.

Yesterday, senior officials from DHS testified before a state legislative anti-fraud committee. They revealed that the agency has stopped payments to 115 providers who collectively billed the program over $100 million since it began in 2020.

Of course, Minnesota was the first state in America to offer this program. DHS officials are currently in the process of shutting down HSS entirely, and expect to completely close the doors by late Oct0ber.

The eight charged were involved in different HSS vendor companies.
