From the New York Post,
NJ Gov. Mikie Sherrill slammed for Memorial Day ‘stunt’ at Newark ICE facility as tense protests rage.
Sherill is a state governor, not a federal official. What expectation should there have been for a state official showing up unannounced to a federal facility, on a holiday, and demanding entry? The Post reports,
Sherrill was denied access to the detention center Monday after several of her Garden State Democratic colleagues, including Sen. Andy Kim and Rep. Rob Menendez, toured the facility over the weekend.
Sen. Kim and Rep. Menendez are federal officials. Sherill is not. Why is this difficult to grasp?
From The Hill newspaper, quoting one of the protest leaders,
The people inside Delaney Hall are fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, and members of our community. In New Jersey, we believe in the rule of law and that everyone deserves to be treated with basic dignity. We have a duty to safeguard the rights, health, and well-being of everyone within our borders.
I would remind everyone that Charles Manson was a son. Charles Manson was also a father (yes, there was a Charles Manson, Jr.). Manson himself was a community member. In fact, he started his own. So, what is the point?
I, too, am inside the borders of the United States. I am a U.S. Citizen and have been from birth. I am a fourth-generation American Citizen.
I have studied the phenomenon of ICE and immigration courts extensively and can accurately report that illegal aliens have ten times the civil rights of any native-born U.S. citizen. There is a surplus of due process available to illegal aliens that native-born citizens have no access to.
Any claim to the contrary is knowingly false.
