On the Hezbollah front

The terms of the Memorandum of Understanding to the contrary notwithstanding, the IDF continues at least some of its efforts to remove the threat of Hezbollah from its northern border with Lebanon. Havind discovered a massive underground weapons cache in recent days, the IDF destroyed if on Sunday evening after warning Israelis that the resulting explosion might feel like an earthquake. The explosion could be heard across northern Israel.

Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter wants us to understand what it was all about. He incorporates video released by the IDF.

The tunnel network in Majdal Zoun reportedly held drones, warheads, explosives and launch shafts aimed at Israel. Israeli officials say it was built with Iranian know-how and used to fire on Galilee communities. Ynet News has a brief story here.

Amit Segal adds a footnote courtesy of Israel Defense Minister Katz: “The enormous tunnel destroyed yesterday was not previously known to us. We found tunnels the likes of which we’ve never seen anywhere. To blow them up, we’ll need hundreds of tons of explosives.” And yet: “The threat of an invasion of Israel from Lebanon still exists—there are 1,200 Hezbollah terrorists from the border up to the Litani River.”
