I think most people had already figured out that climate hysteria is a money-motivated scam by the time the U.N. threw in the towel on its most extreme forecasts. Lacking support at the federal level, climate fanatics are in retreat in the U.S., and around most of the world.
This is largely due to the fact that observation–the ultimate criterion–consistently fails to verify the theories that are embodied in climate models. Thus, from No Tricks Zone:
According to a recent presentation by climate scientist Dr. Ole Humlum published in Science of Climate Change:
Real-world observations show both cooling and warming trends in the Arctic, Antarctic, and Tropical oceans since ARGO monitoring was introduced in 2004.
Real-world observations show no trend in global precipitation since 1979.
Climate fanatics have never been able to make up their minds whether global warming is supposed to cause droughts or floods. When it comes to precipitation, it hasn’t caused anything:
More charts at the link. What follows is particularly important, since, while clouds are not well understood, they have a great deal to do with global temperature:
Real-world observations show global cloud cover decline since 1985. A decline in cloud albedo means more solar radiation can be absorbed by the surface. Thus, the decline in cloud cover can easily explain the warming of the last 40 years.
An accompanying chart says cloud cover has decreased from 64% to 61%, which could account for the mild observed warming of recent decades.
As hysteria recedes, science increasingly can fill the void with observations rather than discredited theories.
