Abdul was released from juvenile detention two months ago, according to the Reuters news agency, which cites security sources.

The interior minister, Alexander Dobrindt, said [he] was initially sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison, which was switched to a non-custodial sentence due to a legal complaint.

He is a German citizen, born in 2005 in Germany. His mother became a German citizen in 2002.
