Convicted Feeding Our Future fraudster picked up for drugged driving. From Lou Raguse of KARE-11 TV (NBC affiliate) on Facebook,
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey’s former policy aide Abdi Nur Salah, who is awaiting sentencing for his role in the $300 million Feeding our Future meal fraud scheme, was charged this week with suspected DWI.
The Facebook post by Raguse covers the basics of the story. Salah worked for Mayor Frey (D) until the fraud scandal broke in early 2022. Salah was indicted back in September 2022.
He pled guilty in January 2025, just before he was set to go to trial in the case. According to the terms of his plea agreement, he is looking at two years in federal prison, give or take a few months.
Salah is defendant No. 6 (out of 80, overall) in the sprawling free-food scandal, and his plea deal represented conviction No. 31 (out of 68, so far). Salah admitted to personally taking in more than $1 million from the fraud.
Fast forward to July 11, 2026. Last Saturday, Salah, now aged 38, was pulled over by a state trooper on I-94 in Minneapolis at 5 am (not pm, am) for driving erratically. Quoting from the trooper’s report,
Defendant’s pupils did not react to light. Defendant displayed multiple clues of impairment during field sobriety testing. The trooper suspected Defendant was under the influence of a controlled substance. Defendant was arrested for a DWI.
After his arrest, Salah refused to cooperate with the court-ordered blood test, which resulted in his gross misdemeanor charge. Despite his $1 million+ fraud take, he was granted a public defender. He was granted $0 bail, but was ordered to be evaluated for chemical dependency. Salah is due back in county court on September 16.
In the federal fraud case, Salah’s sentencing is scheduled for August 26. Upcoming courtroom events in the Feeding case through the end of August,
