President Obama promised that if he became president, electricity costs would skyrocket. Of course, he intended to bring about that result by enacting cap and trade:

Today’s USA Today headlines: “Household electricity bills skyrocket.”
The increase reflects higher fuel prices and the expense of replacing old power plants, including heavily polluting — but cheap to operate — coal plants that don’t meet federal clean air requirements.
And, to his credit, Obama was able to fulfill his campaign promise without cap and trade!
