First MSNBC cleans house, dismissing its most egregious show hosts like the joyless Joy Reid, and, apparently, trimming back Rachel Maddow’s staff while requiring her to go back to a five day a week schedule. No doubt MSNBC’s viewer is devastated by these cuts.
But the media bombshell today comes from the Washington Post. Post owner Jeff Bezos made this announcement on Twitter/X a few hours ago:
Expect howls of outrage from the left today, tomorrow, and through the weekend, and likely thousands of canceled subscriptions. The Post employs several openly socialist writers in their Opinion section. I wonder how many of them will follow Shipley out the door (or be dismissed), or have their columns spiked by new editorial staff. Start with this guy:
And my prediction is coming true in real time as I compose this post:
Stock up on popcorn today.
Now let’s see if any universities have the sense to take a similar step. Inside Higher Ed reports today that a new survey of college presidents shows “weak support” for tenure. Hmmm.
College presidents showed tepid support for tenure with a little more than a third agreeing that the pros outweigh the cons, according to Inside Higher Ed’s 2025 Survey of College and University Presidents, conducted with Hanover Research and released in full today.
As Buckley used to say, “Who says A must say B.” College presidents recognize their tenured faculty are a big problem. When will the preference cascade start to reduce the headcount of tenured radicals on the faculty?
This is what winning looks like. And I’m in no ways tarred yet.
