From Bill Melugin of Fox News,
For Tou Vang, child rape is “normal in his culture.” Then let us each act according to our national customs and deport Vang back to his homeland, where he can practice his cultural traditions as he sees fit, and see where that leads.
The details of the Vang case are horrific enough. But now we have the added outrage of Democratic politicians trying so score points against “Trump” by preventing the deportation of this monster.
I wrote about a similar case in May involving an armed robber. Minnesota is host to another large, monolithic-voting ethnic community, this one involving Southeast Asians. As with the state’s Somali community, without huge turnout in the Southeast Asian voting block, Democrats could not win elections in Minnesota.
As with any large group, a few of its members have run afoul of the law over the years and have been threatened with deportation. For the first time ever, we have a President (Trump) willing to carry out deportations, and home nations (Laos, Vietnam, etc.) newly willing to take back their own citizens.
To prevent these deportations, Walz and state Attorney General Keith Ellison have been issuing “emergency” pardons that they hope will prevent the execution of final deportation orders filed against these criminals.
An idea so crazy it just may work. Adding insult to injury,
The letter from state government to Mr. Vang begins with a “Congratulations!” on his avoiding accountability for child rape.
This case could have been quickly forgotten if not for the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) making a big deal about it. DHS has posted on X (Twitter) many times over the past few days on the case.
The New York Post, the U.K. Daily Mail, and Fox News have all picked up the story, which is well and good. But this case caught the eye of the New York Times.
Minnesota Pardons Sexual Abuser Who Was Set to Be Deported
With the Times picking up the story, other left-wing outlets may feel compelled/allowed to file their own reports.
And no matter how bad this story is, it just keeps getting worse and worse. From the Minneapolis Star Tribune,
Victim’s forgiveness was key in pardon of Tou Lue Vang, Hmong man facing deportation
Child rape is not a private, civil matter to be settled like the outcome of a car crash. It’s a serious felony criminal offense against public order. All citizens have an interest in such acts being punished. Despite Mr. Vang’s twisted logic, child victims cannot consent to, or be complicit in, their own abuse.
Likewise, victims should not be coerced, years later, as adults to honor a community’s code of omerta. This episode reminds me of the case of Hollywood film director Roman Polanski and his “forgiveness” by his child rape victim.
As for Vang, the Star Tribune “reports,”
Vang was 18 when he started assaulting his victim in 2002. He received a removal order in 2006, the year of his conviction.
“But,”
On June 10, the Board of Pardons — consisting of Walz, Ellison and state Supreme Court Chief Justice Natalie Hudson — voted to purge Vang’s felony sexual assault conviction. The deciding factor was a letter from Vang’s victim saying she forgave him and supported his pardon.
Revictimized all over again.
The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office, which prosecuted Vang, opposed his pardon. Tami McConkey, director of the office’s Victim, Witness and Postconviction Justice Division, wrote that Vang received a lighter sentence of 30 years probation for the offense because the victim “was experiencing pressure from her family to not cooperate.”
In my view, Ellison and Walz are now complicit in Vang’s crimes.
The Star Tribune notes,
Vang is the third Laotian refugee in Minnesota to be pardoned this year during the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.
Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the victim.
