NAACP’s Glass House

The NAACP has tried to make itself relevant again by casting aspersions on the Tea Party movement. But if we’re looking for actual racism, as opposed to the fabricated kind, we need look no farther than the NAACP itself. Big Government posted this video of U.S. Department of Agriculture official Shirley Sherrod, speaking an an NAACP Freedom Fund dinner in Georgia earlier this year. Her speech, which was greeted with approval by the NAACP members, was explicitly racist.
This Obama administration official described how she was conflicted when a white farmer came to her for help. Not her help, mind you, but the taxpayers’ help–she administers a billion dollar budget. Sherrod told the NAACP group:

[T]he first time I was faced with having to help a white farmer save his farm he took a long time talking. … But he had come to me for help. What he didn’t know while he was taking all that time trying to show he was superior to me was, I was trying to decide just how much help I was going to give him. [Laughter from the NCAAP group.] I was struggling with the fact that so many black people had lost their farm land. And here I was faced with having to help a white person save their land. So I didn’t give him the full force of what I could do. I did enough …. I took him to a white lawyer that had attended some of the training that we had provided…. So I figured if I take him to one of them, that his own kind would take care of him.

Here is video of Ms. Sherrod:

That, folks, is the Obama administration speaking.
The NAACP was once a respected organization, but that was decades ago. Now, it has no moral standing whatever to talk about racism, or anything else.
UPDATE: Big Government gets results. Ms. Sherrod resigned from her USDA position today. But throwing her under the bus won’t make questions about systemic racism in the Obama administration or the NAACP go away.
FURTHER UPDATE: The NAACP has posted the full video of Sherrod’s speech, and it appears that the clip is misleading. Sherrod was describing not a recent event, but one in the past that ultimately caused her to reject racist impulses. The point she went on to make was one of racial unity.
That being the case, it is curious that the Department of Agriculture forced her out, apparently without knowing all the facts. That says something, I suppose, about the priority the Obama administration puts on the contretemps between the Tea Party and the NAACP. In any event, whatever systemic racism there may be in the Obama administration or the NAACP, Ms. Sherrod evidently is not part of that problem. My apologies to her.
